The band takes its name from the ancient Ægyptian lunar deity Khonsu. "Khonsu" translates to "traveller" or "pathfinder" referring to the moon's pathway across the night sky. Some of the imagery used by the band has it origins in ancient Ægyptian art where Khonsu's head (sometimes depicted as a hawk) would be crowned by a sun disk and crescent moon.
